A regular match of the game League of Legends is being played. According to Forbes in 2012 League of Legends became the most played PC game in the world. “Riot reports that 27 million people play the game daily, while concurrent players peak at 7.5M. In total, 67 million players play the game every month.”
The 2014 World championship held at the Seoul’s World Cup Stadium in Korea. According to the oficial numbers released from Riot Games, over 40,000 people assisted the stadium and over 27 millions of people simultaneously watched the final game around the world. The total prize pool for the winners summed $2,000,000.

Samsung Galaxy White, a Korean professional League of Legends team walk towards the big stage. The team sponsored by Samsung won the 2014 World Championship. They followed the steps of 2013 Champions SKT 1, and reigned victorious in their own country.

Video-streaming platform twitch.tv allows players to broadcast their games online. Twitch was bought by Amazon in 2014 for $970 millions and is one of the most frequented sites on the internet. According to Forbes, “it is possible to choose streaming and gaming as a lifelong vocation and earn over $300,000 a year.”
Carlos Rodríguez, professional player and streamer, broadcasts one of his games on twitch.tv. Rodríguez made almost $1,000,000 in one year. According to GameStop, “he stated that the amount is made up of a combination of tournament winnings, merchandising income, salary, live streaming games, and personal sponsors.”
One of the dozens of GameStop stores located in Puerto Rico. The store was founded in 2000 in Texas. Right now, “GameStop operates as one of the largest gaming retail chains in the world through a network of over 6,600 locations.”
Veronica Rivera and Alexandra Lopez have worked at Gamestop for 5 and 2 years respectively. They both have been avid gamers since they were kids and that is one of the reasons why they work at GameStop. “ I play everything from Super Smash Brothers to Call of Duty, so it is good working at this store!” said Veronica.
Lopez works at GameStop in Humacao, Puerto Rico and considers herself a big gaming fanatic. She was one of the millions who watched the League of Legends World Finals on October 2014. “I think e-sports can become a big part of our culture like other sports are”
Big department stores like Walmart also have a gaming section. Gaming has surpassed over the years the stigma of being entertainment for kids. According to Rivera, “video games are not only for kids anymore and have managed to become an entertaining past time for adults as well.”

Comic cons, as they are called, are regularly held in many places across the island and they embrace the gaming culture as it rises up as a big source of entertainment.
