Our contributors are students enrolled in ENGL 3268: Writing for the Communications Media at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (El Colegio).

The project was launched  in Spring 2009 with a diverse team of novice blogporters who reported on Arts & Entertainment, the Economy, Green Alternatives, Social Issues and the English Department at UPRM. Each semester after that students have continued reporting on a wide variety of  topics affecting or involving the University of Puerto Rico community.

The course professor and blog editor is Jocelyn A. Géliga Vargas (Ph.D. Communication). After teaching in communication, journalism and cultural studies programs in Massachusetts, New York City and Buenos Aires, she joined the English Department at UPRM in January, 2005.

Though our target audience is our university community, we hope that our blogports will also interest readers elsewhere. We are learning media writing techniques for the first time and, for the vast majority of us, putting them into practice  in our second language (English). We want to share this learning experience and our writing with other blogporters and blogreaders.
